For You Telecare Family Service (FUTFS) assists individuals and families from all walks of life to overcome cultural, emotional, and psychological barriers through a wide range of counselling and educational services and programs. In collaboration with other social service organizations, FUTFS raises awareness of social issues and supports clients in the community through the progression of a healthy lifestyle and gradual integration into Canadian society.

Community Day

FUTFS holds “The Community day” from 10am to 2pm on March 19, Saturday. We will have the graduation ceremony of “the Mentoring Program”. There will be presentations of projects produced by the mentors and mentees who participated at the Mentoring Program. Free lunch will be provided to those participating in Community Day.

Volunteer Team Activity Project

For You Telecare Family Service (FUTFS) has consistently provided volunteer training programs on37 occasions over the past 22 years. Everybody, including our members and volunteers, can participate in the volunteer team activity project that we want to promote this time. Starting on January 25, 2022,a total of 10two-hour sessions will be held on Tuesdays, from 12:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. This is a time for volunteers to share and learn what they want to actively develop in their vision and new volunteer activities. Even though many people can do only very limited volunteer work due to COVID-19, this special activity provides an opportunity to enjoy learning and have time to share their stories, and ask each other, "How and what can we do to do volunteer work well?"

Youth Mentoring Program

The Youth Mentoring Program is the first activity program of The Embracement and Empowerment (E & E) project and runs from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday, between January 25 and March 22, 2022. This Mentoring program consists of two mentor training programs, two mentee training programs, three mentor and mentee matching programs, and a total of eight sessions until the final graduation ceremony. Through this mentoring program, the mentor and mentees establish a relationship through dialogue, bringing positive change and growth to each other, sharing each other's vision of life, and acting as a leader in the future. It aims to provide opportunities for all of them to develop their skills as next-generation leaders. An art workshop to learn ‘Computer animation’ will be held for 8 weeks from March 29th.

English Conversation Class

FUTFS provides the opportunity to have fun and informative English education classes every week to help trained volunteers do volunteer work without language barriers in Canadian society. The new English Café, which began on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, is held from 10:30 a.m. until noon, and is a free service and welcomes all those who wish to attend.

“What have I lived for?“

Working as a Marriage and Family Therapist and Psychotherapist, I have heard many sad stories of the effects COVID-19 is having on people, making the world increasingly bleak and people’s hearts becoming hard and not caring for others. People are finding it difficult to communicate with each other and to establish relationships; sometimes this happens due to generational differences.  The generation I find that is being most seriously impacted is parents and children. Parents face conflicts due to differences in expectations for their children. Children tend to be less expressive than their parents; however, their stress will be almost the same. In particular, I am concerned that the effects of stress on children do not always appear immediately, but that they may affect their lives later on, such as in setting goals, their studies, lifestyles, and social activities, or that the effects manifest negatively in other ways.

The modern philosopher Bertrand Russell, in his essay “What Have I Lived For?” writes of three very simple but exceedingly intense passions: 1) the lust for love, 2) the search for knowledge, and 3) the willingness to face the suffering of mankind. He said that he had taken control of his life when he searched for compassion, longed for it, and eventually found it. He said that he wanted to touch people’s hearts through the search for knowledge. The love and knowledge he sought led him to “heaven,” but compassion always dragged him back to earth, compassion for starving children, people tortured under persecution, helpless old people who became burdens to their children, loneliness, poverty, and suffering for failing to uphold the minimum dignity given to human life. He promised that he would live his life holding on to these three significant values.

Introducing Bertrand Russell in March, announcing the birth of a new life, our goal is to find a way to restore our passion when we feel we are losing our enthusiasm as the world becomes bleaker and tougher due to COVID-19. Through Russell, who lived his life to his best following his three passions, we can be connected with love, learn the virtues and practices of accepting, sharing and giving, and do our best to achieve the purpose and meaning of life in order to sustain our hope.
