The Hidden Truth of Korean American Youth Ⅱ

Some youths feel lonely and respond with anger, sometimes harming others. This can also lead to severe emotional problems like anxiety or depression, and even self-harm or suicide attempts. When youth feel disconnected from adults, they may isolate themselves further, only focusing on their own thoughts and feelings.

They sometimes exhibit behavioral warning signs such as sudden anger outbursts, theft, lying, or symptoms of delusions or paranoia. Violence escalating into fights is particularly concerning. Such youths become distant from a healthy and happy life.

So, how do we help? Firstly, we need to use support networks and consult experts when problems arise. Secondly, youths need chances to express themselves emotionally, whether at school, with friends, or at home. Thirdly, they need guidance on values, identity, and setting goals for a healthy life. Lastly, we need youth centers and stronger support systems in schools.

Sometimes, youths transform loneliness from social exclusion into anger, resulting in harmful behavior towards others. Disconnection from parents or adults isolates youths, and adults remain disconnected from the youths' world. Lack of adult-youth relationships leads to youths solely advocating for their own views, further isolating them from their families.
