Programs & Services

For You Telecare Family Service (FUTFS) assists individuals and families from all walks of life to overcome cultural, emotional, and psychological barriers through a wide range of counselling and educational services and programs. In collaboration with other social service organizations, FUTFS raises awareness of social issues and supports clients in the community through the progression of a healthy lifestyle and gradual integration into Canadian society.

Counselling Training Program

We acquire the appropriate counseling concept and the ideas of volunteerism as being aware in our daily life through various lecturers and topics, discussing and sharing with small groups, and applying our knowledge not only to FUTFS, but also to the practices of daily life, to Canadian society, and to those who really need help. This provides opportunities to gain skills and experiences on how to communicate well, have good relationships and how to practice volunteering work.

Toronto Island Picnic Day

In the meantime, everyone is having a lot of Zoom classes and looking at the monitors indoors. So, we plan to organize a picnic at Toronto Island. As the weather gets warmer, we will all gather together and have a fun walk, have lunch, and spend the day together. Each person brings a snack, water, and a lunch box, dines outdoors, gets on the boat, feels the wind, and has a good time together. At 10:30am we will gather in front of the Toronto Island ticket office and return at 3:30pm to go back home.

Parenting skills with Children

This is a parent skills workshop with children. It consists oflecturesand activities about the appropriate understanding and role of parenting necessary for Korean Canadian children (under 12 years old) to become physically, emotionally and mentally healthy. Children and parents play together, feel intimacy with each other through activities and dynamics. This Parenting Skills Workshop helps to improve relationships and communication skills between parents and their children.

“There is always someone in the world who will hug you and say, “It’s okay, even you fail!!!”

By Heejin Kim

Spring is in the air, with temperatures sometimes reaching 20℃! People are out in short sleeves! Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the SEY Project was held in limited number, small group gatherings. For eight weeks, four different workshop series were held: Memoir Writing, Sing-Along, Classical Dance, and Expressive Art. On Community Day, an audio play,“Conquer the Darkness!”, wasperformed, which highlighted what had been learned from the Musical Performance workshop, which had been held for ten weeks beginning December 2020, and all the SEY projects. In addition, through the Embrace Project, two workshops wereheld: Grieving Process and Emotional Intelligence Improvement, which focused on emotional intelligence, resiliency and self-empathy skills. It was a great opportunity for the participants to share their thoughts and feelings with each other. The Embrace Project workshops were held online via Zoom, but as a participant, I found the sessions informative. The overall achievement of the SEY and Embrace Projects was to understand ‘I’, empathize with ‘you’ and make ‘we’ together in any different situation. FUTFS will start a counselling education and volunteer training program for seven weeks starting April 12,which will be held every Monday evening from 6:30 to 8:30. I have high expectations for this program. I am confident that it will be an inspiring time for everyone who participates based on their skills and experience. We are living through difficult times, so if you understand ‘I’, empathize with ‘you’ and strive for ‘we’, you can participate in the various beneficial education and training programs of FUTFS. I hope you will be able to take the time to learn how to give and receive helping skills. You have been doing well, you are doing well, and you will do well in the future with your confidence. I hope that today will be a day to praise and encourage yourselves and say, “You did a great job today.” I send this newsletter with the feeling of flying a paper airplane!
